Blinds Window Coverings
In one form or another, everyone uses blinds or window covering in their home or office. They are used for a variety of purposes; to protect furnishings and carpet from the sun's sharp rays, to keep the home cool and less bright and for privacy.
The most common forms of blinds and window coverings are horizontal and vertical blinds, but there are literally dozens of different types to choose from. Finding the best blind that works for you is simply a matter of taste and personal style. You'll discover the many different looks as you go along.
Taking good care of your blinds and cleaning them on a regular basis is necessary to not only keep them looking their best, but to also ensure they continue to function properly. The proper care and maintenance of your window coverings depends on the specific type you have chosen. Traditional curtains for example, can be easily cleaned in the washing machine and then hung to dry. Some materials may require ironing after washing (epecially those made for winter with a heavy insulating backing) and some may require professional cleaning at the dry cleaners. For blinds and window coverings made from plastic, a simple but frequent dusting is usually sufficient. If they are really dirty, then a cloth and warm soapy water should do the trick. Wooden blinds can be a little more challenging to take care of when they get dirty. Water and chemical cleaning agents can be absorbed into the wood, leaving a nasty stain and damaging it's natural integrity. If the wood has been well sealed with paint or varnish, using a damp rag should be fine, but if the wood has been pre-stained, then a light dusting is the only way we recommend to go.
